Nepal Earthquake Update From The Ground
We thank you all for your continued thoughts and prayers. We would like to give you an update about the impact of the devastating earthquake from the ground. Six team members from Empowering Women of Nepal (EWN) and 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking visited some of the remote villages of Dhading districts (152 kilometers from Pokhara, and about 9-10 hours drive mostly on a very narrow mountain dirt road) with some relief supplies which included which included tarps, blankets, sleeping bags, mattresses, food, clothes and medicines.
In the villages that we visited about 30 people lost their lives and many are injured.
Although not at the epicentre of the earthquake from our observation nearly all of the houses in this area are cracked, out of which about 30% were completely demolished and the rest are in a very critical condition. These houses are not safe for these families to live in anymore.
We have 3 months of heavy monsoon approaching and this will make conditions worse for these already traumatized people. At the moment they are all sleeping under tarps in their fields. Tremors are making things worse as more and more people are developing extreme fears. The tremors continue when we were there distributing supplies we felt another strong one whilst in the forest.
We will continue to send relief materials to those in need mostly in Dhading and the Gorkha districts. We are currently seeking financial support to provide tin roofs for immediate relief. Any size donations are most gratefully received at this crucial time of rebuilding our nation.
To provide a tin roof - 6 tin roof panels per family will cost approximately US$ 200. There is a minimum of 50 households in immediate need in this one area.
We thank you for your continued support and love.
