MARDI HIMAL TREK
The 5 days Mardi Himal Trek with a Newzealand boy from EWN group was a wonderful trek. My
client was young and Physically fit and mentally Kind and sensible person. He never gave me the chance
to worry. The weather was in favour of us. 1 st day of our trek was bit cloudy and nill visibility, still we
enjoyed trek. The weather was misty but not rainy and cooler, so we decided to walk longer. Our
destination was normally Pitam Deurali but we decided to stop at Pothana at the height of 1900 m.
starting from Milanchowk, crossing Astam, Hyangjakot, Dhampus villages a picturesque gurung village.
We kept our plan open and flexible and made our destination Pothana in 6 hours. Next morning, we saw
Mountains despite having hazy.
Our 2 nd days destination was low Camp from Pothana, walking through desert forest talking about
various topic such as Buddhism, football, political system of both countries Geographic features,
cultural heritages etc. We glimpsed mountains like Fishtail, Annapurna II ,IV, South and Himchuli
through the forest. We stoped at Rest Camp for lunch which is at the height of 2600 m . After lunch we
proceeded to low Camp which is another 2 and ½ hours from there. low camp is an opened field and has
6 guest houses and scenary is amazing especially for not fishtail and we can see clearly the Mardi Himal
from there. The altitude is 2900 m .
Our 3 rd days destination was High Camp from low camp, located at the height of 3500 m . We made
it in 4 hours . It was snowy the snow fall started at 8 AM and continued till 8 PM . The thickness of snow
in the next morning was more than 12 inches. The weather was fantastic with blue sky, At 6 AM. The day
light was fall and started for view point on knee high snow with hand gloves and crampons.
We reached to View point at 7:30 AM. The view was stunning. The univers was just in two colours Blue
Sky and White ground due to snow. The following Mt are visible from the view point of Mardi to the
right, Fishtail, Mardi Himal, Annapurna II , IV Lamjung Himal and Ganesh Himal range. To the left,
Himchuli, Annapurna South, Bahra, Sikhar, Partly Annapurna I, Tent Peak, Singachuli, Annapurna III,
Gangapurna, Gandharba Chulu and Tilicho Peak.
Our 4 th days destination was Siding a Bhramin village. From view, we returned back to high camp hotel
for breakfast. After breakfast, we left for Siding walking on snow all the way down to Siding, From low
camp to Siding the trail is really knee killer, more steep down continue 2 and ½ - 3 hours . The reward is
hot shower at Siding also very nice view of Mt Fishtail and Mardi Himal and Green Hills. Altitude 1700 m
Our 5 th days destination was Pokhara. Last day was easy walk on secondary road. After walking about 2
hours, we reached to Lumbre, where terminal of buses and jeep from outside, however local jeep is
available at Siding as well. We took bus from Lumbre to Harichowk Pokhara from where we ordered car
from our office and drop to our guest houses. Finally we did good bye exchanginly smile mutually .
