Sandakphu Trek begins. We will drive to Dhotrey (2hrs), the starting point of the trek. We will follow a gradual uphill hike through Rhododendron and Magnolia forests. The trekkers hut at Tonglu (3020m) is located on a hill top overlooking the Sikkim Himalayas. Overnight in Tonglu.
Early morning we hope to have fantastic views of the Kanchenjunga range and sunrise. On the 2 day of the Sandakphu Trek, we undertake a pleasant walk downhill and then a gradual walk through the forest which is home to the rare Red Panda and the Tragopan. After about 4 hrs the trekker's hut of Garibas (2620m) is reached, where we spend the night.
The third day of Sandakphu Trek we will take a jeep to Sandakphu (3636m) which takes about 2 hrs. Sandakphu is the place to view the mountains. On a clear day one can see the peaks of Lhotse (8501m), Everest (8848m) and Makalu (8475m) of the Nepal Himalayas and the huge Kanchenjanga massif (8586m) along with other peaks of the Sikkim Himalayas. Overnight at Sandakphu.
On Day 4 of Sandakphu Trek, The trail is along a ridge and can be considered as one of the most enjoyable and scenic walks in the Himalayas. The whole range of snowy peaks is in view and the trail passes through high altitude vegetation and areas of dwarf rhododendrons and firs. The walk to Phalut (3600m) is about 7-8 hours. Overnight at Phalut.
Sandakphu Trek continues with an early morning walk up to Phalut Top to view the sunrise over the Himalayas. From Phalut the mountains are much closer. After breakfast we will start an enjoyable trek downhill to Gorkhey (2500m). The village of Gorkhey is one of the most beautiful places in the entire trek. It takes about 4 to 5 hrs.
We provide bagpacks, crampons, and maps. Cost includes: Sandakphu Phalut teahouse trek on twin room basis - guide, assistants, insurance for staff, permits, environmental fees, service charges and applicable Govt. service taxes, meals during the trek, welcome and farewell dinner. Cost Excludes: Extra beverages, clients insurance, lunch and dinner except homestay with 3 sisters family and 8 days treks, welcome and farewell dinner. expenses of personal nature like personal trekking gears, sleeping bags, beverages, laundry, telephone, personal insurance, extra expenses due to accidents/natural calamities/strikes, camera equipment fees, tips, visits to places not mentioned in the above itinerary.
