An early climb to the summit of Poon Hill (3030 m) to watch the sun rise across a magnificent Himalayan panorama. After breakfast we follow a long ridge through rhododendron forests to Deurali. We then walk through impressive river gorges with the chance to see Langur monkeys in the trees. Our destination is Tadapani (2680m)
We walk along a shaded forest trail, followed by terraced fields of maize and potatoes to Ghandruk (2170m). From here we have fantastic views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhare. It is a major settlement of the Gurung, an ethnic group of Nepal. It is a very famous Gurung village with terraces and offers excellent mountain views. After arriving, it is possible to take a short walk to explore the village, visiting a cultural museum and monastery.
We will walk down hill for 2 hours, we continue gently downhill with view of Annapurna South, Hiun Chuli and villages with green forests, and will cross the bridge and climb stairs for another two hours that reach us to a village, Landruk (1565 m).
It is an easy walk of about 5 hours. You will walk along a gentle road path for the first two hours. There are two ways that lead to Australian Camp from here. One way is the walking track, which takes an hour and a half to ascend to Deurali and then another hour up and downhill to Pothana. Alternatively, you can take a 2.5-hour road trek to Pothana. It's another 1.5 hours uphill through the forest to Australian Camp.
This day hike is very relaxing and rejuvenating. It is an hour walk to Astam village. It offers 360 degree views of the entire Pokhara, Hemja, and Mardi valley with backdrop majestic views of the Annapurna Range offering one of the most spectacular places to view a sunset and sunrise in the Himalayas. We begin our gradual downhill trek through the chestnut forest with views across the Hemja and Mardi valleys, before we arrive at the village of Jijharka where we stop for refreshments at the local store.
