Mount Everest towers above Khumbu at over 8,848m and is perhaps the most iconic symbol of challenge and adventure. At Base camp, stand face-to-face with the famous Khumbu ice fall and beyond. This trek gives you a grand tour of the famous Khumbu valley. It is a strenuous route leading to Cholapass 5430m and Gokyo lakes. Gokyo Ri and Gokyo lakes trek is a beautiful journey to the enticing Gokyo lakes and Gokyo Ri which is very amazing viewpoint for great views of Mt. Everest and massive Ngozzumpa Glacier and many other mountains.

Tour Package Overview

Ascent/Descent : 1410m ascent Kms : 50 kms flight 8 kms walk Duration : 45 min flight 4 hrs walk

A spectacular 30-minute flight gives us the first view of the mountains. An easy 4-hour walk through alpine forest and along the Dudh Koshi river takes us to Phakding, our first destination.

Ascent/Descent : 830m ascent Kms : 11 kms walk Duration : 5 ½ hrs walk

This day we walk to Namche Bazaar (3440 m), the main centre of the Solu Khumbu region. The walk is about 4 to 5 hours and includes some steady climbing. Also this day we walk through alpine forest and we might spot pheasants, the national bird of Nepal.

Acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar. We walk up to Syangboche and Khumjung (3780 m) where we have our first view of Ama Dablam and Mt. Everest. A visit can be brought to the Hillary School and the hospital in Khunde.

Today Tengboche (3860 m) is our destination. A gradual walk takes us to Tesing (3380 m) where we have lunch followed by a 2-hour climb. We walk through juniper and rhododendron forest and there is a possibility we see a group of tahr (Himalayan goat). In the afternoon we visit the famous gompa (Buddhist monastery) where we can attend the chanting ceremony of the monks.

Pangboche (3930 m) is reached after two hours. Because of the altitude we will stay here for acclimatization. In the afternoon we can visit the gompa and explore the Sherpa village.

Ascent/Descent : 480m ascent Kms : 8 kms walk Duration : 7 hrs walk

From Pangboche to Dingboche (4410 m) is a 7 hour walk. Today we can see the difference in landscape: we leave the forest behind us and enter a barren environment. In the afternoon, after having reached our destination, we ascend another 200 meters for better acclimatization.

Today we cross the Thukla pass at 4830 m and ascend 500 meters in total to Lobuche (4910 m). Number of walking hours: 5. Like previous days we ascend another 200 meters for acclimatization in the afternoon.

30 minutes after Lobuche, a little detour from the main trail, we can visit an Italian research centre with the shape of a pyramid. This center collects and monitors climatological data and is beautifully situated close to a glacier. We continue our way to Gorak Shep (5140 m), the highest located accommodation of this trek. Walking hours: 4-5. After lunch in Gorak Shep we climb Kala Patthar (Black Rock) at 5550 m from where we have a beautiful and close view of Mt. Everest and surroundings. Climbing up and down takes about 3 hours.

Ascent/Descent : 230m descent Kms : 14 kms walk Duration : 9 hrs walk

Another day in Gorak Shep. We walk up to Everest Base Camp (5364 m), starting-point for many climbing expeditions. On our way we can see the fascinating structure of the Khumbu glacier.

Ascent/Descent : 80m descent Kms : 8 kms walk Duration : 5 hrs walk

After Lobuche we continue our way to Dzonghla (4830 m). The walking is gradual all the way and takes approximately 5 hours.

Ascent/Descent : 130m descent Kms : 8 kms walk Duration : 5 hrs walk

Today we leave early to cross the Cho La Pass (5330 m). The first hour of walking is gradual followed by steep climbing for about 1,5 hour. We cross the glacier and enjoy our rest near the prayer flags on Cho La Pass. We descend a steep and slippery trail for an hour and after another hour of gradual walking we reach our destination Thangnag (4700 m).

Ascent/Descent : 90 m ascent Kms : 8 kms walk Duration : 7 hrs walk

A gentle 2-hour walk takes us to Gokyo (4790 m) where we can enjoy the beauty of Dudh Pokhari (Gokyo lake) and again a beautiful view of the mountains. After lunch we climb up to Gokyo Ri (5360 m) from where we have another spectacular view of the mountains, including Makalu and Cho Oyo.

Ascent/Descent : 200m ascent / 200m descent Kms : 8 kms walk Duration : 5 hrs walk

Another day in beautiful Gokyo. A trip is made to Ngozumba Tsho (Fifth Lake) at 4990 m. This is an easy walking day and walking to this lake and back to Gokyo takes about 5-6 hours.

Ascent/Descent : 680m descent Kms : 11 kms walk Duration : 7 hrs walk

Today we walk from Gokyo to Dhole (4110 m). Again, the trail gives us a magnificent view and we pass several beautiful waterfalls. The trail is mostly downhill except for the last hour.

Ascent/Descent : 1280m descent Kms : 14 kms walk Duration : 6 hrs walk

After a gradual 4-hour walk we reach Namche Bazaar (3440 m) where we can enjoy some bakery, shopping or contact home through e-mail or telephone. We walk another 2 hours downhill to reach Monjo (2830 m)

Ascent/Descent : 10m ascent Kms : 11 kms walk Duration : 5 hrs walk

On this last day we walk down to Lukla in about 5 hours. We can observe the Sherpa village and farming life and enjoy our last day in the mountains. In the evening we will share our last dinner and talk about our experiences of trekking in the beautiful Khumbu region.

Morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu and explore Kathmandu Valley.


Price Includes: Guide, assistants, 3 meals per day, afternoon tea & snacks, accommodation for the duration of the trek (2 persons per room). However, during high season one room per two clients may not be always available. If this should happen we request our clients to be flexible and share a triple or room with four beds. Annapurna Park entry and TIMS fees, staff insurance, transport to and from the trailhead, two nights' accommodation pre and post the trek and a complimentary massage after the trek from Seeing Hands, a blind organization. (proud to introduce one of our product) and can supply 75 liters backpack for the main trekking stuff, light crampons, gaiters and trekking map.
