.The Gokyo Lake is the world’s highest freshwater lake system comprising of surrounding six main lakes, The Gokyo Ri (5357m) is a black rock to climb steeply up but with a rewarding view at the top with a panoramic view of Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse, Taboche with the Ngozumpa Glacier. Gokyo Lake III, Cho La pass (the glacier), and Mount Everest from afar. From here, you can clearly see that Mount Everest is the highest of all, Renjo La (5350m) have a beautiful view of Ngozumpa Glacier and the sawtooth peaks of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Cholatse, Taboche, Makalu and the Cho La. We fly to Lukla (2840m). We begin the trek with a descending to Ghat (2490m) which is in the valley of the Dudh Kosi (Milk River). We then continue to Phakding (2610m), where we will stay overnight. Hiking Hours: 2/3 If time permits and energy levels are still high, there is an option to walk on further to Benkar (2630m). This option makes day 2 a little easier. Hiking Hours: 5
From Phakding we climb over a steep and stony ridge heading for Benkar (2630m). We then cross the Kyashar River and climb to Monjo (2840m). At Monjo, we enter the Sagarmatha National Park and see Thamserku Peak (6608m) towering high above us. From Monjo (6608m) we climb 600m on a steep uphill ascent, crossing the Dudh Kosi River to Namche Bazaar. Views of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse will be seen (weather permitting). We stay in a comfortable lodge in Namche Bazaar (3440m). Namche Bazaar is a unique city. On Saturdays, there is a popular market and many lodge owners come to buy their supplies. Hiking Hours: 5/6
We will take a day trek to Syangboche and Khumjung from Namche Bazaar for acclimatization purposes. The trek will be filled with amazing views of the mountains, including Ama Dablam, Thamsurku, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse. As we ascend uphill towards Syangboche, and then head 20 minutes gently downhill reach to Khumjung, we will experience the lifestyle, culture, and religion of the Sherpa people in the region. We will see many prayer wheels and monasteries dating back centuries, as well as lush green pastures with yaks and sheep grazing, a peaceful and relaxing sight. Hiking Hours: 5/6
From Namche, the easy scenic beautiful trail continues to Kyangjuma village (3550m). The trail is perched on a rocky mountain high above the gorge of Dudh Kosi. We can see the incredible views of Thamserku, Kongde, Ama Dablam, Kangtega, Lhotse, and Mt. Everest from the trail, which goes along to Kyangjuma. On the right of the trail, we can see Tengboche and Phortse Sherpa villages. For 2 hours the trail ascends towards to Mong La (3972m), our destination for the day. Hiking Hours: 4/5
The trail steeply descends for 1 1/2 hours down to the Dudh Kosi River and continues to Phortse Thenga (3675m). The trail today passes under the shades of Rhododendron, Juniper and Coniferous Trees. Yaks can be seen on green pastures along the trail and different birds can be spotted including, the grandala, pheasant and blood pheasant. The trail today has views of the mountains, Ama Dablam, Kangtega and Thamserku. It is possible there will be some snow, which serves to make the trail even more beautiful and enjoyable. The trail end today at our final destination, Dole (4110m). Hiking Hours: 4/5
The trail continues to Machhermo (4470m), where we are treated to a view of Mt. Thamserku. The trail ascends to a scenic ridge, then traverses through a narrow, then wide valley. The trail meets Phangga and then meanders down to the riverbank of Dudh Kosi. The trail then becomes steeper, as we climb to the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier. Along the trail, we see the first, then the second Gokyo Lake, the world’s highest freshwater lake system. Gokyo is a beautiful small village situated on the shore of the Gokyo Third Lake. This is where we will stay overnight. Hiking Hours: 4/5
We will take a day trek to the fourth lake, Thonak Tsho (4870m). It is a steely grey pool surrounded by enormous boulders and patches of ice. It comprises six main lakes, of which Thonak Lake is the largest. Hiking Hours: 5 There is an alternative option to climb Gokyo Ri. The Gokyo Ri (5357m) is pretty much like Kala Patthar, taking 2/3 hours to climb, and being rewarded with a great view at the top. A panoramic view of Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse, and Taboche with the Ngozumpa Glacier. Gokyo Lake III, Cho La Pass (the glacier), and Mt. Everest from afar can be seen. From the top, Mt. Everest stands out as being the highest, something you can't tell when you are up close and look up. It will be a 1 1/2 hour easy trek back down to Gokyo where we will spend the rest of the day. The path climbs gently along the flank of Gokyo Ri, and then zigzags up a finger of grey scree above the NW corner of the lake, crossing the ridge of the pyramid-shaped peak. From Renjo La (5350m) we will have beautiful views of Ngozumpa Glacier and the sawtooth peaks of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Cholatse, Taboche, Makalu, and the Cho La. After crossing the pass, the trail winds down a staircase of huge stone slabs and then drops steeply to the south bank of Angladumba Tsho. We then join a wide and obvious dirt path that drops below the lake along the north side of the valley. After crossing the Relama Tsho, we swing around into the sandy valley of the Rinjo Khola. The final steep descent to Lumde (4380m) follows a narrow valley clogged with giant boulders. Hiking Hours: 7/8
We begin the day by trekking 40 minutes downhill to Marulung (4210m) on the east bank of the Bhote Kosi. Below Marulung we cross the western side of Bhote Kosi and descend for 40 minutes to Taranga. We take a gentle stroll down the valley to reach Thambuten village and the 350-year-old Yaro Kerok Gumpa. From the Buddhist Temple at the bottom of the village, we take a short ascent over the moraine to Thame (3800m). Hiking Hours: 4 There will be an option to visit the old Monastery in Thame in the afternoon.
This is the last day of our trek. After Toktok we descend to Phakding and Ghat, from where we will ascend and descend equally. A final ascent brings us to Lukla airport and we can finally take off our shoes and enjoy dinner together at the farewell party. Hiking Hours: 4
